As I was doing further testing, realized this OS is probably not ready for the masses. Testing is looking good, and very promising. However, I was doing my initial testing over cat5, a keyboard, and mouse. No adapters or awkward components were tested yet. Video played fine through a few streaming services (add ons) while checking things out.
And that’s what stage this OS is in. Testing.
Looks promising and hopefully some snags will be fixed soon. Again, to the developers, thank you for your dedication. You guys are awesome!
There has been a lot of talk about the discounted insulin from Walmart. Feeling a little rebellious (you get that way after having T1 for over 40 yrs, 24/7, 365), I decided to give it a try. Disclaimer: Those diagnosed with the disease over the past 20 yrs PLEASE CONSULT A DOCTOR BEFORE EVEN ENTERTAINING THE IDEA. It’s different insulin, peaks at different times, and WILL BE more confusing/dangerous than sticking to the formula you are used to. Note: You will need to schedule your time/meals accordingly, you will be on a completely different time table (insulin effects/meals/planning).
Given that I grew up on R(egular) and N(PH), it was a little less of a challenge. And I went solo, because I was getting a little frustrated with insurance and the amount of doctor appointments necessary to keep up. You CANNOT use this medication in a pump, probably will be taking at least 4 injections a day (2R + 2N), possibly less if you choose the 70/30 route. AND, I also stopped using a CGM…testing my levels with blood samples. Totally OLD SCHOOL. (yes, I could have taken it even further with vials/syr)
How did it go?
In the beginning, fairly well. The A1C was consistent with previous results. The major problems arose when I changed my diet from low carb to more countrified home cooked meals. Carbs, carbs, and more carbs. However, these meal changes will affect anyone (on any insulin) negatively if adjustments are not made…which is why you should regulate with a doctor anyways.
Is it doable (to take this insulin regularly)? Well, two of the Walmart pharmacists I spoke with stated that they thought the insulins were more “emergency” products than anything else. Yet, given that I was on this exact stuff for well over a decade, I would say it’s definitely doable. And you can buy it without prescription OR insurance. Is the discount worth the trouble?
The newer insulins are faster acting making them much more efficient. Even without a pump, 24hr/3-4hr insulins provide a more targeted approach to regulating your levels. And a pump/CGM provide (near) real time monitoring with subtle adjustment/corrections throughout the day. It may be challenging/very expensive to get this all set up though. The “accepted” sensors. CGM. Pump. Monitor. And the “accepted” insulins.
What am I doing now? I’m currently pumping again. So far, so good.
As previously noted/anticipated, switched to a “dumb” computer monitor for the majority of my TV viewing time. The challenge was local news, and without a tuner card, seemed nearly impossible. XBMC (now kodi) offers several add-on’s, one named “Local Now” (you may be familiar with it).
Local Now, offers local newscasts from ocean to ocean in the US, plus more. And it’s great that it runs on xbmc/kodi, because it removes the need to set up a networked antenna, utilizing a networked tuner card. Or to be logged into an account.
Great commercial/advertising skipping, at times, also.
So what are we dealing with here (from an old backup, custom built computer)?
I’ve never been a big frozen pizza fan. Matter of fact, would rather make a pizza (as well as any other food) with as few “prepared” ingredients as possible. However, I’ve learned to enjoy a few (frozen pizza brands) after a buddy brought pies over several times. And recently, was substituted the wrong pizzas in an order I placed.
Before cooking, I made a concoction to include the correct ingredients. Onions, green peppers, ground beef, mushrooms. After preparing, had some of that mixture left over.
Ingredients needed for the following open sandwich recipe:
Ground Beef
Green Pepper
Onion
Mushrooms
Mayonnaise
Horseradish
Dill Relish
Swiss Cheese
French Bread (sliced)
Let’s first make a great tasting tarter sauce. Ingredients: REAL Mayonnaise (3 table spoons), DILL Relish (3/4 table spoon), AND HORSERADISH (1 teaspoon).
Cover (one side) halves of dense white bread with sauce…I used french bread, but italian, or general white bread is fine.
Place a layer of SWISS cheese over saucey side of bread. And then add the “philly” mix prepared earlier. Ground beef, onions, green peppers, mushrooms
Cook for about 5 min at 400 in oven, or 4 min at 400 in air fryer.
Well. That was rough. At times small sites see a suspicious/unexpected increase in traffic (or worse, bombarded by bots). A few months ago I was dealing with some configuration issues here, which made this site unreachable. More recently, some more unexpected downtime… this is why we went into “maintenance” mode. As the server also indicated, some (way too) heavy loads (at times), it was definitely time to do some “pruning”. Annnnnd, take a break.
Any other comments, opinions, ideas? Hmmm. A long marathon of Dateline NBC may make a few people appreciate what they have, destroy their assumptions/ignorance, and realize humans can’t be coded or predicted.
Those printers that Shaq promoted? They are actually pretty damn awesome. Epson did a great job with the ink bottle refill approach. “Outside the Box” and innovative. After a deep cleaning, works great for photos, scans, copies. It’s been about two years since purchase. Still going strong.
Still loving cachyos. And continue working on that linux os.
Doing a little distro sampling. Currently on CachyOS, and let me just say… it just “feels” nice. Very fast boot time and seems light and responsive.
My vpn client (app) is supported “out of the box”. Network config was no issue, and automatically detected at boot. Both wired and wireless network are working flawlessly.
Bluetooth speakers picked up and paired quickly, listening to some music while writing.
The whole system just seems solid, efficient, and easy to use.
ArchLinux always seemed like a steep hill to climb. And to get to this sampling of the OS, went through several downloads of another distro…opening the physical shell of my pc…swapping SATA boot drives…and lots of wiping internal and external disks.
Also involved going into the bios and changing quite a few settings.
The CachyOS made the whole iso preparation/installation process simple. It’s light and very easy to use if you are familiar with basic terminal (CLI) commands and also have a basic understanding of linux systems.
Long week, with quite a few surprises. Time for the funk.
…as a note, will not be posting about the “gardening” after all. The blackberries and apple tree are doing very well. However, because of several days, at various times, away from the plants… plus the lack of an irrigation system and timed lighting, some plants did not make it. Nevertheless, still a hell of a lot to do outside (live by a woods).
It was about an hour away. The town was notable for both it’s university and it’s unique, for the area, park. What made it unique? An unusual series of trails, elevations, and scenic views (including rivers, falls, forestry). As I rode in that blue Buick to camp, I didn’t know what to expect.
The car had that old wood grain framing around the cassette area and center air vents. And playing through the speaker, from a beige colored audio tape, was a love song for the ages.
We entered the parking lot, of the park, and I was soon dropped off. My cabin mates were somewhat diverse. A few from the inner city, a foreign exchange student, and a few of us from rural areas.
Amazing what we all shared in common. Yet, intriguing how different we were.
In the middle of the week I was called into the camp counselor’s office. A fight had broken out between a black male and one of the other camp members. And I was a witness. It was the first time I’ve witnessed true hate in person. Aggressive, Ugly, Unapologetic.
Many of those camp members are not around to read this today. I’m sure that soccer girl would love the current FIFA madness. I’ve loved “Umbro’s” ever since we met.
Posted last night, but later thought that the content was a little thin. Twas a good day for several different reasons. “Celebrate!”, you say? Just press play.
Night Verses -Love these dudes:
They were on tour with other bands I’ve followed in the past. Saw them at a coffee shop when they had a lead singer. They were amazing live. Been a fan ever since.
_____
Fiona, Alanis, Tori? …Emma Ruth Rundle
While going through some familiar label content on YouTube, found this song. Appears she’s done quite a few appearances and has been around for a while. This kind of has the feel of Fiona and Alanis, sprinkled with just a very very small portion of L7.

How about some more Thursday?
Was introduced to this band over two decades ago by a military friend of mine (his band loved these guys). And as I attended more shows, heard more and more about them.
